The association between the gender gap in science achievement and students’ perceptions of their own attitudes and capabilities

Among the countries that participated in trends international mathematics and science study (TIMSS) 2019 for grade 8 science, Oman had highest gender gap favor of girls. The current explores achievement relates it to students’ varying perceptions their own attitudes capabilities. sample comprised 467 9 students, 266 female 201 male. participants were given a TIMSS-like test, along with four self-perception surveys; these explored metacognitive awareness, self-regulation (SR), learning self-efficacy (SLSE), (AS). results indicated student self-perceptions SR, SLSE, AS, significantly related students higher-level achievement. different when looking at scores lower-level questions; here, there was no relation any variables study.
